The attacking midfielder, who re-joined the Blues’ academy system from Southampton three years ago, has been a standout performer in League One for Peterborough United this season.

After a short temporary spell in the fourth-tier with Gillingham last campaign, Morgan signed for Posh on loan in September. Across 38 games in all competitions for the Cambridgeshire club, he has netted 14 goals whilst providing three assists.

But, having missed their last two matches, the player took to social media to explain his recent absence from Luke Williams' side - which may have some implications for a future Championship move.

Just days before Morgan explained why he hasn’t been featuring for Peterborough United, BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel reported that Swansea City, Sheffield United and Preston North End are among a host of Championship sides tracking Morgan after his impressive campaign.

It’s worth noting that the versatile attacker, who is capable of playing as a striker or attacking midfielder, has one year left on his Chelsea contract.

This situation obviously puts the Premier League giants in a position to cash in this summer or sanction another loan.

However, in a personal update shared on X, Jimmy-Jay Morgan has confirmed that he has returned to Chelsea after sustaining what he describes as a minor injury while on loan at Posh.

The message read, "Hi everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to speak directly to you all.

Unfortunately, I’ve picked up a minor injury recently. To make sure I get the right care and a clear understanding of it, I went back to Chelsea FC for a full diagnosis.

The good news is that it’s nothing serious, and I’m already focused on recovering as quickly and properly as possible. It’s frustrating to be sidelined, especially when I want nothing more than to be out there giving everything for Peterborough United and for all of you.

Your support means a lot to me, and I feel it every time I step onto the pitch. I’m working hard behind the scenes to get back to full fitness, and I truly hope to be back out there in front of you before the end of the season.

Until then, I’ll be cheering the team on just like you. Thank you for your understanding and continued support - it doesn’t go unnoticed. See you all soon."

Although Morgan hopes to be back playing in the third-tier this season, it's probably extremely unlikely that will happen, due to the fact there's only three games left.

Depending on what the injury actually is, it could also impact any chances of a possible move to the Championship next season, which Blades and Swans fans need to be aware of.

Sheffield United and Swansea City will surely be keeping a close eye on Jimmy-Jay Morgan's developments at Chelsea

In truth, the timing of Morgan's injury update raises questions over his immediate availability, of course, but also how it might influence potential reported suitors like Sheffield United and Swansea City.

Without full disclosure on any sort of recovery timeline, Championship clubs weighing either a loan or permanent bid may be cautious.

However, what you may not be aware of is the amount of money Chelsea paid Saints to bring Morgan back as a 17-year-old in 2023.

As previously mentioned, Morgan joined Chelsea's academy at the age of eight before moving to Southampton. He returned to Stamford Bridge for a reported fee of £6m including add-ons.

This amount of money implies that the youngster is a special talent, so a step-up to the Championship does feel logical after proving himself in League One with 12 league goals.

Cobham would mean he has access to top medical resources. Also, it might just be a little niggle more than anything that he doesn't want to risk before the summer.
