Talented Brazilian comes out on top in the battle of the two teenage wonderkids
Chelsea’s young side came of age in spectacular fashion as they beat 10-man Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.
The Blues started on the front foot, with Enzo Fernandez twice having the ball in the back of the net before VAR intervened, but they finally found the breakthrough as Jules Kounde failed to clear Pedro Neto’s close-range flick.
Barcelona were then reduced to ten men on the stroke of half-time as captain Ronald Araujo was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Chelsea continued where they had left off after the break and found the goals to put the game to bed as Estevao and Liam Delap scored to put the Blues 3-0 up and cap a thoroughly impressive evening for the west Londoners.
Sam Tabuteau rated the Chelsea players from Stamford Bridge...
Robert Sanchez 6
Alert when coming off his line. Did not have to make any saves of note.
Malo Gusto 6
Showed a lot of ambition - covering the most ground of any player in the first half - but struggled to make the most of some promising positions. Picked up a sloppy yellow card towards the end of the first half and was replaced at the break.
Wesley Fofana 7
Playing as an auxiliary right-back, he allowed Gusto to push on as Chelsea pressed forward from the outset.
Trevoh Chalobah 7
Aggressive early on up against the experienced Lewandowski. He was not asked to do much once Barcelona were reduced to 10 men.
Marc Cucurella 8
A typically energetic display. Drifted in behind to set up Chelsea’s opening goal. Kept his cool up against Yamal. Cleared his lines at important moments.
Reece James 8
Some sloppy passes early on put Chelsea under pressure, but he recovered excellently and laid the ball into the path of Estevao for the Blues’ second. Snapped into tackles as Chelsea went after Barcelona with a vengeance.
Moises Caicedo 8
Rested against Burnley, he was full of energy here, rising to the occasion in yet another big game. Made a great tackle on the edge of his own box to cut out a rare Barcelona attack in the first half.
Estevao 9
Announced himself on the biggest stage. Pitted up against Yamal, he overshadowed the Barcelona man no end and doubled Chelsea’s lead with a sumptuous goal. Should have had an assist for a deft through ball to Neto.

Enzo Fernandez 9
Twice thought he’d given Chelsea the lead in the first half, only for VAR to intervene. Battled for every ball, drawing fouls and driving Chelsea forward. Unselfishly squared for Delap to score. No player made more passes into the final third than the Argentinian.
Alejandro Garnacho 7
Had his moments without providing the finishing touch. Thought he’d set up Andrey Santos for Chelsea’s second, but was ruled offside.
Pedro Neto 8
Starting up front, he blazed over when put through by Estevao, but made amends when his shot was smuggled over the line by Kounde. A constant threat running in behind. An excellent display.
Substitutes
Andrey Santos 6
The offside flag denied him a goal moments after coming on. Kept it neat and accurate in possession, misplacing just two of his 31 passes.
Liam Delap 8
Gave Chelsea presence up front and scored the Blues’ third with a simple finish from Fernandez’s pass. Good hold-up play. The goal, his first for Chelsea this season, will have done him a world of good.
Jamie Gittens 6
The game was as good as won by the time he came on with Chelsea 3-0 up. Did not make much of an impact.
Josh Acheampong N/A
A testament to the strength of Cobham that Maresca was able to introduce him and George off the bench.
Tyrique George N/A
Took just three touches after coming on late in the second half.
