Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck all scored as Chelsea hit a blank again to surely end any realistic hope of securing Champions League football.

Defeat left them seventh and braced to be leapfrogged by teams below them.

Dom Smith was on hand to rate the squad’s performances...

Robert Sanchez 5

Made a horrendous error with the ball at his feet which was almost punished early on, but made a number of good saves to ensure the scoreline didn’t get embarrassing. But still conceded three, and that says it all really.

Struggled in the first half when he was booked. Was then replaced at half-time.

Trevoh Chalobah 5

A difficult first start for the Englishman following his ankle injury. Given a right runaround by Brighton’s interchangeable attackers.

Jorrel Hato 3

Is growing in confidence but this was a step backwards and was partly at fault in the lead-up to Brighton’s second goal. Poor.

Marc Cucurella 5

Did very little on the night and was not an attacking outlet by any means.

Malo Gusto 4

Had a chance to assist Garnacho in the second half but didn’t cross early enough. Fine. No better.

Moises Caicedo 5

Worked hard throughout, against his former team, and never gave up. Marginally, the best of a bad bunch.

Enzo Fernandez 4

Not up to scratch on a night when Chelsea themselves were not. Didn’t complete many of the passes he’d have hoped to.

Romeo Lavia 5

Brought into the team as Rosenior changed the formation but struggled to keep Brighton’s dynamic midfield at bay.

Pedro Neto 4

His corner deliveries were disappointing and he didn’t provide the threat out wide that Chelsea required.

Liam Delap 4

Another game passed Delap by without him finding the net. The striker is struggling to do any more than holding the ball up of late.

Subs:

Alejandro Garnacho (Fofana, 46’) 3

Didn’t have anything like the deserved impact off the bench and was flagged inexplicably offside when Chelsea had a huge chance to counter.

Marc Guiu (Delap, 73’) 4

Had a snap shot soon after coming on and often shows that he can be a different sort of option when introduced.

Dario Essugo (Lavia, 73’) 4

Struggled to get into the game, introduced at a time when Chelsea were already looking well beaten.

Josh Acheampong (Gusto, 90+1’) N/A
