There was another round of international matches played out last night, and as always, there was a Chelsea involvement in some of the games.
Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez grabbed his 5th assist in just 3 games for Argentina but was unable to help them avoid defeat to Paraguay.
No Kendry Paez or Moises Caicedo for Ecuador though, with the latter being suspended for this game and the aforementioned not being picked.
England were without Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill who both withdrew earlier in the week after having knocks in their last domestic games.
But Noni Madueke did start their Nations League game against Greece last night, and he also provided an assist for the opening goal.
But not only that, Madueke’s game by numbers was super impressive after helping his side win 3-0 on the night.
Madueke set up Watkins to score
The Chelsea winger started the move and then provided the assist for Ollie Watkins to score England’s first goal, in a great bit of play.
But as well as that and according to stats website Squawka, misplaced just two of his 32 passes, won four of his six duels, created more chances (3) than any other player on the pitch and provided an assist against Greece.
It was a great Madueke performance and one that you felt he needed as well after some poor games for Chelsea recently.
There was also the incident in the Arsenal game at the weekend where he stormed off down the tunnel after being subbed off and then missed the equalising goal by Pedro Neto, the guy who moved to play in Madueke’s vacant position.
Madueke stepped up on the international scene though and showed us some of that form that had Chelsea fans and media raving about him not so long ago now. Let’s hope he brings that back to Chelsea now.
