The January transfer window offers Ruben Amorim his first opportunity to shape Manchester United into the team he envisions. However, it’s expected that the major moves will happen in the summer, with reports suggesting Amorim is targeting a key Paris Saint-Germain player. United, though, will face competition.
The club’s summer signing of Manuel Ugarte from PSG has been a success, with the midfielder excelling under Amorim’s guidance. New rumors now suggest that Amorim is keen to reunite with Nuno Mendes, a player he previously managed at Sporting Lisbon.
According to CaughtOffside, United remains highly interested in the 22-year-old left-back, who is reportedly open to the move after discussions with his representatives. If Mendes doesn’t extend his contract with PSG, the French club might be willing to consider offers of around €70 million next summer.

Simon Phillips of TalkChelsea reports that Chelsea have added Mendes to their list of potential January targets.
Mail Sport recently reported that Mendes has declined a new contract with PSG and is eager to join Manchester United. However, due to PSR restrictions, the Red Devils are unlikely to meet PSG’s asking price this window.
If PSR prevents Manchester United from pursuing the defender, that’s good news for the Blues. Although PSG are reluctant to sell, they may have to consider it if Mendes refuses to extend his contract, which only has 18 months left.
