Chelsea have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior days before Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley.
The club said in a statement that they had parted company with Rosenior, praising his integrity but admitting recent results fell below required standards. It added under-21s boss Calum McFarlane will lead the team as interim head coach until the end of the season, supported by existing staff, as they target European qualification and assess a long-term appointment.
Chelsea travelled to Brighton on Tuesday night having lost four straight Premier League matches without scoring.
They were beaten 3-0 at the Amex, making it five league defeats in a row without a goal for the first time since 1912.
Rosenior was appointed midway through the season.
