Chelsea have completed the signing of Italy international Marco Palestra from Atalanta on a six-year contract with an option to extend. The club confirmed the deal, with the fee reportedly €60m plus add-ons.
Palestra said he is eager to get started, having felt the club’s energy since first contact, and is looking forward to meeting supporters, team-mates and the manager. He described a talented squad and a strong manager in Xabi, adding that discussions about the playing style were exciting and that they want to compete in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old had been close to joining Inter for €45m plus bonuses before Chelsea moved late with a far bigger proposal and a salary package thought to be around double what he was offered at San Siro.
His wages are reported to exceed €5m per season across the six-year term, with an option for a further year. Atalanta are expected to retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause and receive about €57m plus €3m in bonuses.
Primarily a right-back, he can also operate on the left or higher up the pitch.
An Atalanta academy product from the age of 10, he impressed on loan at Cagliari last season with 37 appearances, one goal and four assists.
Palestra made his first two senior appearances for Italy in March 2026 after regular involvement at Under-19 and Under-21 level.
