FC Bayern are keeping an eye on a young Chelsea defender – but concrete transfer plans are mainly dependent on another personnel issue

FC Bayern’s plans for the upcoming summer transfer window are already underway in the background – especially in defense. One thing is clear, however: there is currently no acute need for action in central defense

Nevertheless, Munich are keeping an eye on the market and one name that keeps coming up is Josh Acheampong from Chelsea FC. The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising defensive talents in England and has increasingly established himself in the first team in recent months

As BILD head of soccer Christian Falk explains, the young defender is on FC Bayern’s list – but he is not currently a concrete transfer target

„Josh Acheampong is currently a hot transfer target for FC Bayern Munich. He is on FC Bayern’s radar, as the club is always open to signing a defender should Minjae Kim leave the club.“

Acheampong is particularly impressive due to his versatility. In addition to his traditional position in central defense, he can also be deployed as a right-back – a profile that is of particular interest to top clubs

However, the situation surrounding Kim is crucial for potential transfer moves. The South Korean is currently playing a solid role in the squad and appears to be happy with his position

Falk made it clear: „However, Kim would have to make representations internally to those responsible and ask for a transfer; only then would they sell him. Otherwise, the South Korean international will stay.“

He continued: „The central defender wants to feel important again, as he was in Serie A. However, FC Bayern are not pushing for a transfer and will not sign a new central defender unless he wants to leave himself.“

Following the contract extension of Dayot Upamecano, those responsible do not currently see an urgent need to rebuild the defense. With Jonathan Tah, Hiroki Ito and Kim, there are several options available. Josip Stanisic can also help out in the center

The strategy is therefore clear: FC Bayern are monitoring the market, but will remain quiet for the time being. Only if the personnel situation changes could a talent like Acheampong actually become an issue.
