Reports have come out this morning that Galatasaray are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic for €20m – a €5m loan fee with a €15m option to buy following that up.
It’s a pretty stunning turnaround to see Petrovic being linked away. Not long ago he looked favourite to be our number one next season. But his absence from the Club World Cup touring party all but confirms he’s on the way out.

Even given that, €20m is simply too low for Chelsea to even think about. Let’s remember they paid £14m for the goalkeeper. Since then he’s played regular Premier League games for the Blues, gone to Ligue 1 and had an exceptional season with Strasbourg on loan, and has continued to pick up caps for Serbia as their number one.
After all that, you think Chelsea are going to be happy with a few million in profit? No chance. We suspect they’d like £30m or more for the former New England Revolution stopper. Whether they can get it is another question, but right now his value is peaking, and they don’t seem likely to compromise on anything given then.
If they don’t get the sort of money they want, they can happily let Petrovic go on loan for another year to build more value. Bigger teams than Strasbourg will be interested now, and we could easily see him playing for a Champions League or Europa League team.
Still just 25 and with 5 years left on his contract, this is a big chance for Chelsea to cash in, and anyone who thinks they might land him for a pitiful €20m with all that considered is having a laugh.
