Liam Rosenior has left Enzo Fernández out of Chelsea’s next two squads after saying the midfielder’s recent remarks about his future went beyond acceptable standards.
According to Hounslow Herald, the Argentina international will miss Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the upcoming Premier League meeting with Manchester City.
After Chelsea’s Champions League exit last month, Fernández cast doubt on whether he would still be at Stamford Bridge next season, while adding there had been no talks with Real Madrid and that, for now, his focus remained on Chelsea.
Rosenior framed the decision as being about squad standards rather than transfer talk, and said it had the backing of ownership, the sporting department and the dressing room. He described it as a disciplinary step, not a permanent break, aimed at reinforcing accountability and emotional control in a young group.
The move comes after a bruising spell before the international break, when Chelsea lost four straight, including a heavy aggregate defeat to PSG in Europe. Rosenior suggested frustration has led some players to speak too openly about future plans. Marc Cucurella said a return to Barcelona would be hard to refuse, then later reiterated he is happy in west London.
Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League, six points off the Champions League places, and their response in the coming weeks could decide whether Rosenior’s first half-season ends with European qualification.
