Another serious injury suffered by Wesley Fofana (24) last month could keep him away from the pitch for a long time.
In December, the French defender incurred a muscle injury during the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Aston Villa.
His club manager, Enzo Maresca, says that Fofana “could be unavailable for the rest of the season”.
Fofana had been a regular starter in Chelsea’s setup before his injury blow. The youngster has had his share of knocks throughout his career, missing the entire 2023-24 campaign due to a ruptured ACL.
Friday’s news could also mean that Fofana won’t be eligible to feature for France in their March UEFA Nations League quarter-final tie against Croatia.
Didier Deschamps called him up to the senior squad for the first time in March 2023 for their Euro qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands.
Three months later, he debuted with Les Bleus when they defeated Gibraltar 3-0. The defender, born in Marseille, joined Chelsea in August 2022 on a seven-year contract for a reported initial fee of £70m, plus £5m in add-ons.
Fofana helped the Foxes lift the FA Cup trophy for the first time during the 2020-21 season and was a Coupe de France runner-up in the previous campaign for AS Saint-Étienne.
