After just one season with Standard Liege, Chilean midfielder Nayel Mehssatou looks set to leave. According to Sudinfo, he is set to return to familiar surroundings with Kortrijk. Mehssatou only left Kortrijk after their relegation from the Pro League two seasons ago to join Standard Liege on a free, but with the club back in the top flight, the versatile midfielder is set to re-join his former side. Mehssatou’s return will be a welcome boost for Kortrijk as they bid to avoid an immediate return to the second tier and cement their position as a stable Pro League side again.
Mehssatou joined Kortrijk back in January 2022 from Anderlecht and went on to play 108 games for the club, scoring five goals. During his time at Kortrijk, Mehssatou converted himself from a full-back to an all action midfielder who can sit deep or play further forward. He can still also play full-back if required, offering Kortrijk plenty of versatility. Mehssatou leaves Standard Liege having played 31 games for the side, although he rarely started and had to settle for most of his appearances off of the bench.
Mehssatou looks set to join Chelsea youngster Harrison Murray-Campbell as one of Kortrijk’s summer signings.
