Argentine FA president Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia praised the national team’s campaign, accepted Spain were the better side in the final, and hit out at attempts to seed conspiracy theories.
According to SuperDepor.com, he highlighted the group’s sacrifice of more than 50 days away from their families and said a runners-up finish never satisfies, while stressing Argentina remain one of the two best teams in the world.
He said lessons come from accepting defeat with the same dignity as victory. He also pointed to the semi-final win over England, which he felt gave the country a huge lift and underlined how the squad represent their people.
Tapia rejected operations and lies he believes aim to destabilise, urging Argentines not to set against each other those who have given so much to the game. He added that the team competed with grit, passion and heart.
Set against a highly successful cycle, including the Qatar 2022 title and a second consecutive final for only the second time in their history, he said this team will continue to represent Argentina with its customary pride.
