Christian Eriksen has struggled to find a club since leaving Manchester United at the end of last season as a free agent.
The Danish midfielder arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 after ending his short stint with Brentford.
Eriksen had an impressive start to life with the Red Devils, and famously delivered a masterclass in midfield management against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League in October that year.
The 33 year old was a regular feature under former manager Erik ten Hag, registering seven goals and 16 assists from 83 games in all competitions.
Eriksen finished the 2024/25 campaign with five goals and six assists from 35 appearances. However, with his contract expiring this summer, the veteran midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements and allowed to leave.
United have streamlined their squad over the summer, and a new midfielder was also on their agenda after letting Eriksen go.
While the Red Devils opted not to sign a replacement for the Dane, they are likely to focus on the position in 2026.
Meanwhile, Eriksen trained with Malmo in recent weeks to build his fitness in preparation for his next adventure.
Recent reports suggested that he was already wanted back in the Premier League, but the Dane now looks set to move to the Bundesliga instead.
According to Tipsbladet, Eriksen has already reached an agreement to join Bundesliga club VfL Wolsburg in the coming days.
Only the formal details of the deal need to be addressed before the transfer can be finalized.
The Lower Saxony club were in the market for a new midfielder this summer and signed Jasper Lindstrom on loan for the job.
However, Die Wolfe also wanted to add more cover to the position and Eriksen’s availability appears to have worked to their benefit. The former Manchester United man now looks all set to play at the Volkswagen Arena this season.
The report adds that the veteran midfielder was on a plane to Braunschweig on Wednesday, and is scheduled to undergo his medical next. If all turns out well, Eriksen is likely to join Wolfsburg to start a new chapter in his career.
The Dane has plied his trade in the Netherlands, England, and Italy so far, but has never played in the Bundesliga.
