Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp were both involved as England built momentum ahead of the upcoming European Championships courtesy of a 7-0 triumph over Jamaica.
The Lionesses saw off the Reggae Girlz at the King Power Stadium with Greenwood playing the full 90 minutes and Hemp impressing for just over an hour in the East Midlands.
Jess Park and Khiara Keating were unused substitutes for Sarina Wiegman’s side while Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw was rested for the visitors.
It may have been a friendly for the Euro 2022 champions but it was vital to perform well, with this game the final warm-up ahead of Euro 2025, which begins on Wednesday.
England start their Group D campaign next Saturday against France.
This certainly will have boosted morale with goals coming through Ella Toone (2), former Blues Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway, Alessia Russo, Aggie Beever-Jones and Beth Mead.
Toone produced a fine shot on 10 minutes to open the scoring while Bronze headed home just park the half hour mark to double the scoring before Toone made it three before the break with a curling effort that went in off the post.
Stanway made no mistake with a clinical finish just before the hour mark.
Chloe Kelly, whose City contract ends at the end of this month as well as our former central defender and Blues fan Esme Morgan were second half substitutes shortly after our fourth went in, the former replacing wing star Hemp.
Lauren James came on with them on 63 minutes as the third of a triple sub and less than 10 minutes later the versatile Chelsea star set up England’s fifth, chipping to the back post for Russo to tuck home.
Beever-Jones added a sixth, Niamh Charles cutting a low cross back for her sliding Chelsea colleague to turn home before Mead put the icing on the cake bringing seven up late on.
It was an impressive send-off ahead of travelling out to Switzerland for the 14th edition of the UEFA Women’s Championships early next week.
