Swansea City may cash-in on Zan Vipotnik this summer.

Swansea City striker Zan Vipotnik has attracted plenty of transfer interest amid his impressive attacking efforts in South Wales this season.

The 24-year-old is the top scorer in the Championship, having notched 21 goals in 40 appearances this season, even though the Swans are a mid-table outfit.

Vipotnik has been in particularly strong form in recent weeks, scoring four goals in his last three games, including a brace in Easter Monday's 2-2 draw with promotion-chasers Middlesbrough.

Thanks to their mid-table status, Swansea may struggle to retain the striker this summer, especially if the right offer for his services lands on the table - the Slovenia international has recently signed a new contract until the summer of 2030, but that may not stop a sale from happening.

Vipotnik has already bettered former Swansea man Joel Piroe's return of 19 goals, which was enough to win the Championship golden boot last season, and helped Leeds United clinch promotion to the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, the Swans have set a £15million asking price for Vipotnik, amid interest from Coventry City, Ipswich Town, Leeds United and Brighton.

Football League World asked our Swansea fan pundit, Will Hughes, if he thinks £15m is a fair price, and if he thinks the striker has what it takes to become a Premier League goalscorer.

Hughes told FLW: "It seems like there's just club after club, after club being reported with interest. I think there was interest from Italy and Portugal as well.

"I think it's inevitable that he goes. There has been an article out today that says he's happy at Swansea, he wants to play in the Premier League with us.

"I wouldn't look into that too much. There's been multiple players, not just with us, that say they're happy, and then the next season they're gone.

"Ultimately, if the price is right, and the right money comes in, he's gone, he is off. Let's not have it twisted, he's gone. If the right fee comes in, he isn't going to stick around.

"The club will sell. We've got a striker waiting for next season, Adam Idah. Perfect replacement, we don't have to spend big. We can invest in other parts of the team, as well as having more money after our recent tax returns. That is going to help.

"I think £15m is a fair price. Just looking at previous strikers that have gone in the division, (Oli) McBurnie, Piroe, I think they were similar prices.

"Even Dan James, I know he was a winger, but he was a similar price. Joe Rodon, to name another, players of big calibre. That's probably the going rate (for) a Championship player, and a mid-table Championship player.

"We're a mid-table club. The way I look at it, and I think a lot of Swans fans need to get in their heads, is his stock is not going to get higher with us, the way it is.

"In my opinion, anyway. He's our current top scorer, he's going to be our top scorer, probably going to be our player of the season. More than likely he's going to be the Championship top scorer.

"Is all that going to happen again next season, with us? Maybe he would be player of the season, maybe he would be our top scorer. Will he be the Championship top scorer again next year?

"With the calibre of teams coming down, Wolves, Burnley, potentially Spurs. Even some of the teams coming up, they've got some goalscorers, you've got Cardiff, (Yousef) Salech, as much as I don't like to mention them, he's a good player.

"Amongst other teams in there as well, players who may have got injured in the league as well, is he going to have a season like he has done again this year?

"You'd probably turn round and say no. He might still have a good season, but is he still going to have as good a season? That is the question.

"I just think his stock is not going to get higher than it currently is, in my opinion. If he ends up going to the Premier League, or a league overseas, with better quality players behind him, naturally, he's going to get more chances in the games he plays, it's just going to happen.

"He may need three chances with us to get a goal. Let's say he gets three chances every game, he scores one out of three. He's at a better club with better quality players creating more chances.

"Let's say he gets six chances every game, he'll score two goals. Naturally, his stock may get higher at a better club. So what do we do in that instance?

"If I was in charge, £15m and a sell-on clause, thank you very much. Or however much it is, stick a sell-on clause on him. Let's say he goes to Brighton, scores a couple of goals there over a two-year period.

"Next thing you know, Chelsea, with all the money in the world, Man United, with all the money in the world. They come in, and they go 'we want him'.

"Spurs get relegated, and they get promoted again. They need a striker. Let's buy him. All the money in the world, £50m or whatever it is. We stick a 10%, 20% clause on that. Great, we're looking at £5m-£10m in two or three years' time.

"That's what I think we should do, because I don't think his stock is going to get higher with us. It could get higher with another club in a higher division, with better quality players in the squad with him.

"That's why I think we need to sell. I think we need to sell now, we've got a ready-made replacement. We can use that money to invest in the squad.

"Get two quality wingers in, a ball-playing centre-half, a back-up striker, and we can have a go next season. That's what I think we should do.

"I think we, in the long term, will kick ourselves if we don't sell him now. Do I think he has what it takes to be a Premier League goalscorer? Who knows.

"I didn't think he had what it takes to be a Championship goalscorer at the start of the season, he's obviously proved me wrong. I can't say. I would probably stick with my gut, and say probably not.

"Maybe he'll get a couple of goals. I don't think he'd get double figures. But again, with better quality players behind him, who knows? We don't know until we see it."

Swansea City could be best served by selling Zan Vipotnik this summer

Vipotnik has been the best striker in the Championship this season, and thoroughly deserves all the credit and high-profile transfer interest that has come his way in recent weeks and months.

However, just last campaign, the 24-year-old scored just seven goals in 44 second-tier appearances.

There is no guarantee that the former Bordeaux man will emulate this term's form next season, so Swansea could be best served by cashing in on him this summer, while his stock is high, as it could very much just be a purple patch.

As summarised by Hughes, it would be smart business for the Swans to include a sell-on clause in case Vipotnik goes on to further improve, a bit like Viktor Gyokeres did when leaving Coventry for Sporting CP - they could then further benefit from his development.
