The event, which will be held at the Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club on Wednesday, May 20, will see former Magpies compete against ex Sunderland and Middlesbrough players for a day of competitive golf, with spaces still available for fans to take part.

Former United manager Chris Hughton will captain the Newcastle representatives, facing off against Sunderland’s Peter Reid and Middlesbrough’s Viv Anderson in a battle for regional bragging rights, all while raising funds for the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity.

The Magpies' squad is packed with familiar faces with Shola Ameobi, Steve Howey, John Beresford and John Anderson and taking part.

A Legacy Born at St. James’ Park

The connection between Newcastle United and Show Racism the Red Card is deeply rooted in our history. The charity was founded in 1996 by Ged Grebby following a powerful intervention by former United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

After being racially abused at a petrol station near St. James’ Park, Hislop, then a key figure in Kevin Keegan's "Entertainers" era, teamed up with John Beresford to launch the campaign at a local school. Three decades later, that initiative has grown into a national powerhouse for education and equality.

"We are delighted that so many players and managers associated with the North East's big three clubs have agreed to participate," said Ged Grebby, Show Racism the Red Card Chief Executive. "We hope the format encourages a bit of friendly competition while raising plenty of money to help educate the next generation."

'First 11' Exhibition Arrives at SJP

In addition to the golf event, Newcastle United will host the 'First 11' exhibition at St. James’ Park later this month.

Funded by the PFA, FA, and EFL, this project celebrates the pioneering black players who first represented their clubs. Having already toured several Premier League and EFL grounds, the exhibition’s arrival at Newcastle marks a significant moment in the club's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.
