Alvaro Morata is still under contract with AC Milan, but the chances of seeing him play another game for the club are practically non-existent.
Morata spoke during the ‘El Larguero’ segment on Cadena SER earlier in the week and explained why he thinks joining Milan was the wrong move, and how he ended up with the Turkish champions.
“I think last summer I should have thought more about whether or not to leave Atletico Madrid. When you don’t feel good at a certain point in your life, you make bad decisions in every aspect. Things can’t be changed now and today I’m very happy,” he said.
“If I could go back, I probably wouldn’t have made that decision. Today I realise that I wasn’t able to see reality. We were champions of Europe and at Atletico there were more and more people who loved me and understood me.”
According to Calciomercato.com, Morata’s recent interviews have ‘created a rift with Milan’. The striker feels confident about staying at Galatasaray: the Turkish club have already paid Milan €6m for the loan and have an option to sign him permanently next January for €6m, payable in six instalments.
If the buy-out is not exercised, the loan could be extended free of charge until June 2026. If Galatasaray decide to buy him by June 2026, the cost would be €9m, again payable in six instalments.
The Rossoneri are hoping for the last option because they would not only avoid making a loss and get rid of his high salary, but even record a capital gain of around €2.55m after a deal that everyone will admit to having regret over.
