Eray Cömert helped Switzerland keep Erling Haaland quiet in a 0-0 friendly draw with Norway at Ullevaal Stadion, Oslo.
According to Superdeporte, the defender’s display has improved his chances of a 2026 World Cup call-up.
He had reappeared for Switzerland against Germany, a 3-4 defeat, coming on for Nico Elvedi for the final 12 minutes.
In Oslo, Cömert entered at half-time for Manuel Akanji and played 45 minutes as Switzerland secured a clean sheet. Haaland, who had scored in 11 consecutive Norway matches since November 2024 when he struck against Slovenia in the UEFA Nations League, was withdrawn on 62 minutes.
At Valencia, Cömert’s season has pivoted from squad option to reliable starter after injuries, including to Mouctar Diakhaby, opened the door. He earned the trust of coaching staff and supporters with solid performances.
His assured defending, comfort on the ball and aerial strength have become valuable assets for a side seeking stability, particularly through the second half of the campaign.
