Former Flamengo midfielder Conca has urged Carlo Ancelotti to call up Fluminense goalkeeper Fábio for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Speaking after featuring for Argentina’s legends against Brazil in Showbol on Tuesday 24, Conca said: “I love this country, so when it comes to the Brazil national team I hope Fábio is one of the goalkeepers, because he deserves it more than anyone.” The comments were made to the Ângelo Furtado channel at Rio Futsummit.

Before Flamengo, Conca played for Vasco and Fluminense in Rio, becoming a Fluminense idol by winning the 2010 Brasileirão.

His Flamengo stint was effectively a comeback bid as he recovered from a serious left knee injury sustained with Shanghai in 2016. He used the Ninho do Urubu training centre during rehab, then joined on a season-long loan. He played only 27 minutes for the club and retired the following year.

While Conca backs Fábio, Ancelotti’s most recent list before the final World Cup call included two Flamengo players, Léo Pereira and Danilo. The pair could start for Brazil against France on Thursday 26 at 17:00 Brasília time in the United States.
