Even as FC Barcelona have all but sealed their place in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, they have been struck down with another injury in the game against Newcastle United.

After losing Eric Garcia to a muscle problem in the first period, Barça were forced to take off goalkeeper Joan Garcia with what looked like a calf issue in the 81st minute.

Having started the game between the sticks as usual, the summer signing could do little to stop the two goals that Anthony Elanga scored in the first period.

However, he had very little to do after the half-time break as the Blaugrana dominated thoroughly on the way to a 7-2 lead.

But, making a routine stop in the 80th minute, the goalkeeper felt something in his calf and immediately asked for medical attention.

After being examined on the field, the Spanish shot-stopper had to be taken off, with Wojciech Szczesny replacing him for the final ten minutes or so.

It must be remembered that Garcia had not trained a couple of days last week, leading up to the Sevilla clash due to some discomfort. He had already been carrying some calf pain for some time now.

It remains to be seen how serious Garcia’s problem is, but thankfully for Barcelona, the international break is just around the corner and he might not miss many matches apart from Sunday’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano if the injury is confirmed.
