Unfortunately for Fredricson, it has scuppered his chance to leave on loan and gain some crucial first-team experience from now until the summer.

He had reportedly garnered interest from ‘several’ Championship suitors, as well as clubs in the Belgian Pro League, all of whom had approached United to gauge the feasibility of taking the defender for the second half of the campaign.

It remains to be seen where Fredricson would’ve opted to ply his trade. Now, he’ll just be hoping he can add to his senior United experience when he’s back to full fitness by the time March rolls around.

What senior experience does Fredricson have already?

Already, the Carrington graduate has featured four times for the club, which, impressively, includes two Premier League starts.

He was deployed from the off against Wolverhampton Wanderers towards the end of last season, playing the full 90 minutes as United fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat.

For the subsequent fixture against Brentford, he was an unused substitute, but he did return to the starting XI and oversaw 76 minutes of action in a clash away to Brentford the following week.

While it was a night to forget for Ruben Amorim and his players, the Portuguese coach called upon Fredricson earlier this term when United took on Grimsby Town in the second round of the Carabao Cup, though the centre-half was hooked at the interval with the Reds trailing 2-0.

His last outing was a more positive one, however, as he was utilised off the bench to see out the dying embers of a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United on Boxing Day.
