Celtic will surely be looking to avenge their 3-0 defeat against the Rangers at Ibrox from earlier in the season when they welcome Barry Ferguson's team to Parkhead this weekend. Unfortunately, things have not started on the right foot for the Hoops and fans will be left very worried going into the matchup.
Celtic are widely recognised as the better team of the two on their day. But unfortunately, they have been handed a double blow before the game has even started.
Celtic will be without two nailed-on starters when they take on the Rangers. Neither Callum McGregor nor Auston Trusty is fit enough to even make the squad. On top of that, Liam Scales is out as well due to a cheekbone injury.
Surely, many had thought that Celtic were just playing mind games with the Rangers leading up to the Glasgow Derby regarding their fitness updates. But clearly, that was not the case at all.
In the absence of McGregor, Celtic have gone with a midfield trio of Reo Hatate, Arne Engels and Luke McCowan. We have seen that combination work in the past although the Hoops will miss their captain's experience and quality in the middle of the park.
On the other hand, the worry might be even bigger in defence. Celtic are without both Trusty and Scales. That has meant that Maik Nawrocki has come in from the cold to start in the Glasgow Derby. It remains to be seen how he performs. Expectations are not particularly high but he has the chance to prove a lot of people wrong and perhaps turn around his Parkhead career.
So, these two problems have left Celtic fans worried going into the game. Hopefully, the team will be able to deal with them and come out on top.
