A familiar opponent awaits Vincent Kompany as Bayern Munich welcome Club Brugge to the Allianz Arena on matchday 3 of the Champions League. The Belgian coach faces a club he knows well from his Anderlecht days - but this time, the stakes are far higher.
Kompany’s Bayern have been flawless so far this season, unbeaten across all competitions and looking every bit a European powerhouse. For Kompany, this clash carries extra meaning: During his time in Belgium, he often faced Brugge in heated domestic battles, and he’s spoken respectfully about their organization and attacking energy. “They always play with courage,” he said ahead of the match, “and that’s something I can only respect.”
Club Brugge, under Nicky Hayen, will look to challenge Bayern with the same aggressive approach that earned them a 4-1 win over Monaco earlier in the campaign. Starplayer Christos Tzolis has called the match “a huge opportunity” for Brugge to measure themselves against Europe’s elite.
With just about an hour to go until kickoff, here are the confirmed lineups for both teams:
FC Bayern's starting XI (4-2-3-1):
Neuer - Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Guerreiro - Kimmich, Pavlović - Olise, Karl, Díaz - Kane
Club Brugge's starting XI (4-2-3-1):
Jackers - Meijer, Ordonez, Mechele, Seys - Audoor, Stankovic - Forbs, Vanaken, Tzolis - Tresoldi
