Neymar will miss Santos’s trip to Flamengo at the Maracanã on Sunday at 17:30 Brasília time in the 10th round of the Brasileirão. He is suspended after an accumulation of cautions for disciplinary conduct.
According to Globo.com, the No 10 has been booked three times in four Série A appearances, with only the derby against Corinthians passing without a caution. Each card came at Vila Belmiro.
The first yellow arrived in the 2-1 win over Vasco in the fourth round, when he scored both goals. Before deciding the match he clashed with Thiago Mendes in the first half and complained at half time, citing previous run-ins in France.
In the seventh round against Internacional, he was cautioned for climbing the fence to celebrate his equaliser. The visitors later won 2-1.
The booking that triggers the ban came against Remo on Thursday at Vila Belmiro. Fouled seven times out of 14 committed by the visitors, he reacted to a challenge by Diego Hernández and was booked for confronting an opponent, as recorded in the referee’s report.
Referee Savio Pereira Sampaio was later criticised by the player.
Neymar is due back for next Saturday’s league match at 20:00 Brasília time against Atlético-MG. Before then, Santos face Deportivo Cuenca on 8 in Ecuador in the Copa Sudamericana, and he is not expected to travel to play at altitude.
