Conmebol announced an important change to group-stage tiebreakers for the Libertadores and Sudamericana, with head-to-head taking priority from 2026. Goal difference moves to second when clubs are level on points.
The head-to-head system applies only to games among the tied sides. It ranks teams by points in those meetings, then goal difference, then goals scored.
Group draws were held on Thursday to determine the first-phase groups in both competitions.
In the Libertadores, Brazil will be represented by Corinthians, Cruzeiro, Flamengo, Fluminense, Mirassol and Palmeiras.
The Brazilian entrants in the Sudamericana are Atlético-MG, Botafogo, Bragantino, Grêmio, Santos, São Paulo and Vasco.
Both competitions begin on seven April 2026 with the opening round of the group stage. The Libertadores final is set for 28 November in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Sudamericana decider will be on 21 November in Barranquilla, Colombia.
