On Thursday, Conmebol sent a circular to federations with clubs in its tournaments, setting a protocol on pitch sizes after Cerro Porteño cut the width for Wednesday's match against Palmeiras.
According to Globo.com, before the fourth round of the Libertadores and Sudamericana, each team must officially confirm its pitch dimensions to Conmebol, and those measurements must then be kept until the final stages of the tournaments.
Only sizes already listed in the competition manuals will be accepted, with a deadline of Monday at 14:00, Asunción time.
For the Libertadores, the recommended size is 105m by 68m, with a minimum of 100m by 64m and a maximum of 110m by 75m.
Cerro Porteño’s Estadio Nueva Olla previously met the recommended mark, but cut the width by four metres to 64 metres without prior notice, a change Palmeiras discovered on arrival.
After the game, Abel Ferreira said it was the first time in his life he had seen such a situation.
