Corinthians’ Conselho de Orientação (CORI) has approved president Osmar Stabile’s payment plan to settle the debt owed to Talleres for the 2024 signing of midfielder Rodrigo Garro, moving the clubs closer to agreement. Talks are in their final phase, and the clubs are finalising contract details, with the figure around R$ 40 million.
"This plan was approved and we are now in the final stage of negotiation, exchanging documents and drafts. It is in the final stretch to adjust and make the payment. For now we cannot comment, out of respect for Talleres. But CORI approved it," he told ge.
"It only depends on approving these drafts, there is a team working solely on that. I believe we could have a final outcome as soon as possible, maybe this week or at the start of next week."
Stabile recently travelled to Argentina with the club’s finance manager, André Lavieri, to ease talks with Talleres president Andrés Fassi. In March, Fassi praised the approach of Corinthians’ new board.
The dispute dates back to the outset of the transfer. Talleres argued it was entitled to US$ 612,000 for operational expenses and taxes, a charge Corinthians contested, which delayed Garro’s registration at the start of 2024.
Corinthians initially paid US$ 4 million, after which Talleres filed a case with FIFA seeking a further US$ 3 million in outstanding instalments. FIFA ordered Corinthians to pay US$ 3,612,000 plus 18% annual interest, and a US$ 722,400 fine.
