Corinthians academy defender enjoying best run of games this season

Corinthians visited Vitória at Barradão Stadium on the afternoon of last Saturday, October 25, in a match for the 30th round of the Brazilian Championship, and won 1-0. The Corinthians goal was scored by midfielder Charles in the final stretch of the second half. With the victory, the Alvinegro jumped to tenth place with 39 points (10 wins, nine draws, and 11 losses – 32 goals scored and 35 conceded).

The win also marked the longest streak of games for defender João Pedro Tchoca, 21, wearing the Corinthians shirt since the start of the season. The defender played 360 minutes (excluding stoppage time) in the last four matches for the Alvinegro, all in the Brasileirão, against Mirassol, Santos, and Atlético-MG.

So far, his longest streak of matches for the Parque São Jorge club happened between February 3 and 19, 2025, when he played five consecutive games in the Paulista Championship (Novorizontino, Palmeiras, São Bernardo FC, and Santos) and Universidad Central-VEN (Pre-Libertadores). Of these, he was only not a starter in the derby against Palmeiras, when he replaced midfielder Alex Santana at halftime.

In recent months, João Pedro Tchoca has been surpassing Félix Torres and Cacá in the pecking order, being the “third” in the hierarchy, as the starting defensive duo for Corinthians has been André Ramalho and Gustavo Henrique. In total, wearing the Corinthians shirt, he has played 25 games (19 as a starter), with 14 wins, eight draws, and three losses. Additionally, he has scored one goal and provided one assist.

Tchoca was promoted to the Corinthians professional squad right after winning the 2024 Copa São Paulo against Cruzeiro, in which he was a starter alongside Renato. However, initially, he did not get much playing time with Antônio Oliveira and Ramón Díaz, and was loaned to Ceará. There, he was one of the pillars in the final stretch of the Série B campaign, which resulted in the team's promotion to the top division after three years.

At the start of this season, he ended up being reintegrated into the Alvinegro squad and was part of the 2025 Paulista Championship roster.
