Corinthians academy graduate nets first goal as a professional

Corinthians faced Capiviariano on the night of this Thursday (5th), at Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the sixth round of the first phase of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista, and ended up winning 3-0. The result left the Alvinegro in fourth place on the overall state championship table with 11 points – three wins, two draws, and one loss – nine goals scored and five conceded.

In addition to the victory, the night was special for midfielder Dieguinho, 18 years old and a product of Corinthians' youth academy, who scored his first goal as a professional athlete tonight. The goal came eight minutes into the second half, when midfielder Rodrigo Garro combined with left-back Matheus Bidu, who played in Gui Negão. After a scramble, the ball fell to Bidu who set up the number 61 to score a beautiful goal into the top corner.

Dieguinho started the match on the bench, but was called into action early in the game, when Kaio César left the field injured at 15 minutes. According to Sofascore, a sports statistics app, the midfielder received a rating of 8.1, accumulating, in addition to the goal: one assist, two key passes, 18/21 accurate passes (86%), 38 actions with the ball, one foul suffered, 3/4 tackles won (75%), four defensive contributions, two ball recoveries, and 5/8 ground duels won.

The Son of Terrão made his debut for the Corinthians professional squad in April of last year, when he came on in stoppage time during the win over Sport, in Itaquera, in the fourth round of the last Campeonato Brasileiro. On that day, Orlando Ribeiro, interim coach of the first team and Dieguinho’s coach in the U-20s, gave the player his debut.

Later, he regained a place in the first team after the arrival of coach Dorival Jr at the end of that same month. The coach, who has always been known for his good work with youth players, began to use more of the Terrão youngsters, especially due to the club’s ban on signing new players – a FIFA transfer ban – which lasted from August to January of this year. During this period, the young midfielder also extended his contract with Alvinegro until December 2029, with an international release clause of 100 million euros (over R$ 600 million).

A left-footer, Dieguinho is known for his good technique with the ball at his feet and strong one-on-one play, often playing on his opposite foot, that is, open on the right or even centrally. Even with only 18 appearances in the Corinthians shirt, he has one goal, two assists, and two titles: Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026).

After beating Capivariano 3-0 in Itaquera, the club from Parque São Jorge will host Palmeiras at Neo Química Arena, in the Derby valid for the seventh and penultimate round of the first phase of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista. The match will take place next Sunday (8th), at 8:30 pm (Brasília time).
