Corinthians announce suspension of financial director after MP complaint

After the Public Prosecutor’s Office charged then-financial superintendent Roberto Gavioli with embezzlement and money laundering, Corinthians decided to remove him from his duties. The complaint, filed by prosecutor Cássio Conserino on Wednesday, is related to investigations into the use of the club’s corporate card for personal expenses by former executives.

“Sport Club Corinthians Paulista announces that on Wednesday (15) it removed – indefinitely and without pay – the Club’s financial superintendent, Roberto Gavioli, from his duties so that he can defend himself against the complaint filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” the club’s board stated in an official note.

The pair now face legal proceedings and, if the complaint is accepted, may become defendants. The Public Prosecutor’s Office itself recommended that the accused temporarily lose their political rights at Corinthians until the conclusion of the case.

In the case of Andrés Sanchez, the club’s Advisory Council (Cori) suggested opening an internal process for him to lose his status as a lifetime councilor for the duration of the investigations. The recommendation has not yet been deliberated, so Andrés remains at the club, which says it is closely monitoring the case in an official note.

“Corinthians also clarifies that it is closely following the complaint involving former president Andrés Navarro Sanchez, making itself available to provide documents and information required by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the club’s internal bodies such as the Deliberative Council, CORI (Advisory Council), Fiscal Council, and Ethics Committee,” the board stated.

Since August, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating previous administrations at Corinthians regarding the use of club funds for personal purposes. In addition to Andrés, who has already been charged, two other former presidents remain under investigation: Duilio Monteiro Alves, for possible personal expenses totaling more than R$ 80,000 between 2021 and 2023, and Augusto Melo, who ran the club between 2024 and early 2025.
