According to Meu Timao, Corinthians enquired about Michael after his Flamengo exit on Friday, but the figures involved made a deal unfeasible.
The 29-year-old forward agreed a mutual termination with Flamengo that morning, ending a contract that had been due to run until the end of 2028.
He is not expected to remain in Brazil, with Saudi Arabia viewed as his next stop. Michael previously played for Al-Hilal in 2022 and 2023, and three clubs in the league have already approached him.
Talks between Michael and Corinthians date back to 2019, when he was the Campeonato Brasileiro’s breakout player at Goiás. Corinthians pursued him then but did not advance as Goiás demanded a high fee after a month-long saga.
In 2022, Corinthians returned with multiple attempts while he was in the Middle East. Al-Hilal sought a fee of R$ 20 to R$ 30 million, so the club again stepped back. Two years later, the board made another attempt.
This window, Corinthians have taken a more cautious financial stance. A move for midfielder Alisson was close, but the club walked away due to the costs initially agreed.
So far, arrivals include centre-back Gabriel Paulista, midfielder Matheus Pereira, Uruguayan right-back Pedro Milans and forward Kaio César, who is owned by Al-Hilal. There is also an agreement in place with goalkeeper João Ricardo, currently at Fortaleza.
