Corinthians begin the week under pressure to settle overdue wages and clear a debt to Talleres arising from the 2024 signing of Rodrigo Garro.
According to Globo.com, unlike last month when delays were resolved within days, the board has avoided setting deadlines and is exploring ways to pay the squad and staff. Salaries were due on the fifth working day of June.
The club is also racing to pay US$ seven million, about R$ 35.7 million, to Talleres. Talleres president Andrés Fassi has set 16 June, next Tuesday, as the new deadline for full payment.
Failure to find a swift solution could lead to another FIFA sanction. Corinthians are already serving a transfer ban over an outstanding sum of about US$ 1.5 million, R$ 7.54 million at current rates, owed to Philadelphia Union from the 2024 deal for midfielder José Martínez.
At the end of March, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ordered Corinthians to pay a little over R$ 6 million to Midtjylland after breaching the agreement for the acquisition of midfielder Charles in the second half of 2024. The club have 45 days from publication of the ruling to settle or face a further transfer ban, a deadline that is nearing.
The amount relates to the third and final instalment of the €1.6 million fee, agreed in three parts under president Augusto Melo. The final €800,000 payment fell due on 15 March 2025 and was not met, and the contract provides for a €200,000 penalty for any delay.
