Corinthians board shake-up triggers statute reform changes

On the morning of Tuesday, the 30th, a group of Corinthians council members received a message from triennial member Joaquim Egídio de Arruda, informing them that he had been invited by president Osmar Stabile to join the club's executive board as deputy commercial director. Although the appointment has not yet been made official, the announcement is already beginning to generate possible reactions in other institutional bodies.

This is because Arruda is part of the Statute Reform Commission, responsible for leading the update of the set of rules governing the club, and whose composition was updated just six days ago by the president of the Deliberative Council (CD), Romeu Tuma Júnior, through a dispatch made after a series of executive board appointments were promoted by Stabile.

The changes were necessary because no council member who joins the Corinthians management can simultaneously participate in committees of the Deliberative Council. This is because one of the body's duties is precisely to oversee the administration, so the presence of the same member in both groups could constitute a conflict of interest and compromise the impartiality of the work.

Central do Timão has learned that Arruda's appointment to a position on the board was not preceded by his resignation from the Statute Reform Commission, nor was it communicated by him to the Deliberative Council so that his replacement could be anticipated. As a result, the commission's work will likely be delayed until the new director's appointment is made official and the group responsible for the statutory reform is updated again with the nomination of a replacement.

Even so, the expectation is that the schedule presented by Tuma at a press conference a few weeks ago, which foresees a vote on the new Corinthians statute proposal by Parque São Jorge members in December, will not be altered. At the moment, the CD president is waiting for the commission to finalize the draft so that the Council can review the suggestions before voting for approval or rejection.

“I am here to inform everyone that I have also been invited by president Osmar to take on a position that until now did not exist at the club, the commercial directorate, which until now was only carried out by employees. I will dedicate myself to the utmost to help our beloved club, with an important detail: at zero cost, as I have always done wherever I have been. The stairs are cleaned from top to bottom, we must set the example.

In advance, I ask everyone for peace within our club. We are going through the worst moment in our history. If you can't help, don't get in the way. This is the time for everyone who loves Corinthians to put it above everything else.

We will never stop overseeing and reporting anything that is wrong, however, petty quarrels and bickering only harm us. This is not the time for that.
