Corinthians have condemned racist abuse aimed at Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel during Sunday’s 0-0 Dérbi at Neo Química Arena, and pledged to identify those responsible.

In a late-night statement, the club expressed solidarity with the player, who represented Corinthians between 2021 and 2024. The club said it would pursue the identification and accountability of the offender and cooperate fully with authorities.

A video circulating on social media shows a supporter in the West Stand calling the goalkeeper 'macaco'. The incident came moments after Carlos Miguel saved a one-on-one effort from Yuri Alberto in the second half.

Under Brazilian law, racial injury is punishable by two to five years in prison, plus a fine, without bail. Since Law No. 14.532 in 2023, it carries the same penalty as the crime of racism.

Earlier this year, Corinthians turned their kit into an anti-racism manifesto after goalkeeper Hugo Souza was abused during the Corinthians v Portuguesa match in the Paulistão. At least two Portuguesa supporters were caught making racist remarks.

Corinthians host Independiente Santa Fe of Colombia on Wednesday at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena in the second round of the Libertadores group stage.
