Corinthians will face Peñarol, Santa Fé and Platense in Copa Libertadores Group E.

Goalkeeper Hugo Souza and midfielder Matheus Pereira reacted after a goalless draw at Chapecoense, speaking at Arena Condá. According to Globo.com, the pair learned of the group only after full time.

Hugo said they chose not to check the draw before playing, highlighting the size of the competition and their wish to go far and compete for the title. He accepted the group has qualified sides and said the team would give their all to achieve the qualifications they need.

Matheus noted they have seen the group, but said the first focus is Sunday’s match against Flamengo before turning to the Libertadores. He underlined the tournament’s importance for the club and for the squad, adding they must deliver their best.

Corinthians open away to Platense, then host Santa Fé and Peñarol at Neo Química Arena. In May they visit the same opponents, in Colombia and Uruguay respectively, before Dorival Júnior’s side finish against Platense in Itaquera. Conmebol is expected to confirm dates and kick-off times in the coming days.
