Corinthians edge Magnus in extra time, reach futsal semi-finals

On the night of this Tuesday (11), Corinthians visited Magnus at Arena Sorocaba for the second leg of the National League (LNF) quarterfinals and won in overtime by a score of 2-1, after being defeated in regular time 5-3. This result put the Alvinegro in the semifinals of the national competition, where they will face Campo Mourão. In the first match, at Wlamir Marques, the Corinthians team had already won 4-2.

Corinthians started the match by giving ball possession to Magnus, who needed the result. However, just three minutes in, goalkeeper Lucas Oliveira launched the ball into the attacking half and Luisinho, opportunistic, opened the scoring for Timão. After taking the lead, the Sorocaba team began to control the game and tied the match. Shortly before halftime, Marlon saw the opposing goalkeeper off his line and scored a beautiful lob goal, demonstrating Corinthians' efficiency in the match.

However, in the second half, Corinthians experienced a sharp drop in performance and Magnus, playing at home, imposed themselves, turning the game to 5-2 and raising doubts about a possible Corinthians qualification. In the final stretch of the second half, Fernando Malafaia's team reduced the deficit with Edimar – 5-3.

In overtime, because they had a better campaign in the first phase, Magnus only needed a draw in both five-minute halves. After five hard-fought and balanced minutes, Corinthians, with just 24 seconds left in the first half of overtime, opened the scoring with Marlon. In the second period, Magnus equalized just 15 seconds into the game, which would have secured them a spot in the semifinals.

However, with just over a minute and a half remaining, Corinthians completed the comeback. After a set play, Igor Carioca shot across goal, Deives ran in front of the opposing goalkeeper, and Maicon finished into the back of the net. Afterwards, the Alvinegro held strong in defense and secured their spot in the semifinals, where they will face Campo Mourão.

Corinthians was lined up as follows by coach Fernando Malafaia to start the match: Lucas Oliveira, Marlon, Luisinho, Renatinho, and Rick. The bench options were: Kelvin, Igor Carioca, Caio Barros, Lucas Martins, Luizinho Brizzi, Maicon, Edimar, Deives, and Israel Neto.

It’s worth remembering that Corinthians won the National League in 2016 and 2022. The dates and times for the two semifinal matches will be announced soon. Before that, however, the Alvinegro will return to the court this Thursday (13), at 7:30 pm (Brasília time), to face Ferroviária Pinda in the semifinals of the Paulista Championship for the sport, at Ginásio Tobias Salgado, in Pindamonhangaba.
