Corinthians eight without a win after 3-1 defeat at Fluminense | OneFootball

Corinthians fell 3-1 to Fluminense at the Maracanã in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, a result that left them eight matches without a win this season. It marks the worst spell of Dorival Júnior’s reign.

The sequence features draws with Portuguesa, Cruzeiro, Santos, Chapecoense and Flamengo, plus defeats to Novorizontino and Coritiba. The last victory came on 19 February, a 1-0 success over Athletico-PR in the second round of the national tournament. According to Meu Timao, Dorival Júnior was criticised by supporters after full-time in Rio.

The last time Corinthians endured a similar stretch was in May 2023, when they also went eight games without a win. During that run Danilo took charge as interim for one match following Cuca’s departure, a 2-1 loss to Palmeiras in the league.

Defeat leaves Corinthians 11th in the table on 10 points, and results elsewhere this round could pull them closer to the relegation zone.

Dorival’s side now turn to Sunday’s meeting with Internacional at the Neo Química Arena, kick-off 19:30, in round 10. They will try to halt the slide in front of their own fans.
