Corinthians executive backs Hugo Souza after Brazil omission | OneFootball

Hugo Souza has been left out of Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad. Corinthians football executive Marcelo Paz played down the omission and praised the goalkeeper’s response.

As reported by Meu Timao, Hugo had been regularly mentioned during Carlo Ancelotti’s cycle but did not make the final cut.

Paz said the club had high hopes and felt he had the level, while accepting the coaching staff’s decision. He noted that Hugo handled it with maturity, stayed focused and produced good displays afterwards.

Paz added that he believes Hugo is one of the goalkeepers for the next Brazil cycle, and that this is now the player’s focus. He also said they will be cheering for Brazil to become six-time world champions.

Attention now turns to Wednesday, when Corinthians face Platense at 21:30 in the sixth and final round of the Copa Libertadores group stage.
