Corinthians have asked about Rony but insist there are no negotiations. The enquiry came as the club intensified their hunt for forwards and drew discontent among supporters.
"It is a player everyone knows, a player who stood out at some Brazilian clubs. In a window like this many names appear, there is contact, conversation, questions, an enquiry about how things are, whether there is a chance. So Rony’s status is that, an enquiry, a conversation, nothing extremely advanced," said executive Marcelo Paz, speaking to CazéTV.
"It is not something already closed, as was reported, we respect the reporting. He is only a player I would place as monitored. We know the player. He plays many games a year, has an injury history, goals and assists, so he has quality."
For the attack, current options include Gui Negão, Yuri Alberto, Memphis Depay, Kayke, Vitinho and Pedro Raul. The club decided not to renew Talles Magno and Ángel Romero at the turn of the year.
Corinthians have confirmed the arrivals of defender Gabriel Paulista, midfielder Matheus Pereira and Uruguayan right back Pedro Milans. They also have an agreement in place with goalkeeper João Ricardo, currently at Fortaleza, and expect to announce Al Hilal forward Kaio César.
