Corinthians are finalising the last details of a new two-year contract for Memphis Depay. According to Globo.com, the forward is expected back in Brazil in the coming days to undergo medicals and sign the renewal.

After Memphis accepted a two-year offer, the club moved the deal forward, though it is not yet closed. Both sides have spent recent hours negotiating the remaining points.

The new agreement will follow a different model and pay far less than his current deal, signed in September 2024 and due to expire on Friday. It also includes settlement of a R$ 42 million debt owed by Corinthians to Memphis.

That sum is set to be paid in four instalments of R$ 10.5 million every six months, the first scheduled for February 2027.

Memphis is on holiday in the Netherlands and is awaiting finalisation before travelling back.

There is internal concern over his physical condition. Allies of president Osmar Stabile point to fitness issues, the club’s severe financial crisis, a negative cost-benefit and political factors to argue against a renewal.

Memphis’s representatives maintain he is fit to play, can complete the required tests and could be available to coach Fernando Diniz once he returns.

In their view, the fitness debate is a pretext used by political groups at Parque São Jorge to try to block the renewal. Even so, the parties directly involved, after months of talks, remain optimistic as they finalise the contract draft.
