Corinthians keeper on emphatic win over Boca in Women's Libertadores

On the afternoon of last Saturday, October 11, Corinthians faced Boca Juniors from Argentina at the Estádio Francisco Urbano, in Morón, Buenos Aires province, in a match valid for the quarterfinals of the Conmebol Women's Libertadores and won 4-0. The Brabas’ goals were scored by midfielder Gabi Zanotti (three times) and forward Jhonson.

After the match, goalkeeper Nicole spoke with journalists present in the mixed zone and analyzed the team’s overwhelming performance, which opened a 3-0 lead in the first half. She also pointed out that she expected to be more “attacked,” referring to the few – or almost none – chances created by Boca Juniors over the 90 minutes.

“I think today (Saturday, the 11th) we played an excellent game, not that the others weren’t, but today we converted the chances we had. I think we made the game easier for ourselves. In other games, maybe we created the same amount of chances and didn’t convert, and ended up making things a bit complicated. So, I think we made the game easier for ourselves today.”

“I also thought I would be a bit more attacked. But, as I said, when we score a goal at the beginning of the game, I think it calms things down a bit, gives everyone more confidence, and it ended up becoming a bit more of a comfortable match,” she began.

Next, she was asked about some peculiarities of the Libertadores, mentioning the quality of most of the teams that participate in the international tournament: “I think Libertadores has a different characteristic: they come from other leagues that play very differently from Brazil, sometimes more long balls, more grit, more physical. So I think Libertadores always follows this style. And this year, I thought the group stage was a bit tougher.“

“I also expected a slightly tougher game today, but I think it (the competition) always follows this pattern where we know how to play Libertadores, because there are different ways to play and it has to be experienced differently. But I think there are great teams here, they already gave us a lot of work in the group stage and I’m sure we’ll have great challenges ahead,” she concluded.

Nicole has been consolidating her spot as the starting goalkeeper for Corinthians. Since arriving at Parque São Jorge at the beginning of 2024, she has played 46 matches wearing the Brabas shirt (all as a starter), with 31 wins, 10 draws, and five losses – almost a 75% success rate. In addition, she has won: Brasileirão (2024 and 2025) and Conmebol Libertadores (2025).

The Brabas, the tournament’s biggest champions with five titles (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2024), will return to the pitch this Wednesday, October 15, at 8 p.m. (Brasília time), to face Ferroviária in a national classic in the semifinals of the Conmebol Women's Libertadores.
