Corinthians make enquiry for Fortaleza goalkeeper to back up Hugo Souza | OneFootball

Corinthians have explored a move for Fortaleza goalkeeper João Ricardo to act as back-up to Hugo Souza. According to Meu Timao, the 37-year-old is on the radar and an enquiry has been made.

There has been no progress towards formal negotiations. The club only made an initial check on feasibility, and João Ricardo is under contract with Fortaleza until the end of 2027.

The expectation is that he will not remain at Fortaleza due to a salary considered high for the club’s current parameters. He had surgery on a right shoulder tendon in October 2025 and is due back in March or April.

Head coach Dorival Júnior wants at least two strong options per position to promote healthy competition. Beyond Hugo Souza, the goalkeeping pool includes academy products Matheus Donelli, Felipe Longo and Kauê.

João Ricardo played 34 games for Fortaleza last season and conceded 36 goals. In the Brasileiro, he featured in 14 matches, conceded 18 and made 54 saves, 29 from inside the box and 25 from outside.

He previously worked with Dorival in 2022 when both were at Ceará.

Corinthians have already strengthened at the back with Gabriel Paulista. Deals for right-back Pedro Milans and midfielder Matheus Pereira are close, and talks continue for Al-Hilal forward Kaio César.
