Corinthians’ number 10 shines with ball recoveries vs Vitória

On the afternoon of last Saturday, October 25, Corinthians faced Vitória at the Barradão Stadium in a match valid for the 30th round of the Brazilian Championship and ended up securing a 1-0 victory. The goal for the Alvinegro was scored by midfielder Charles. With the triumph, the Corinthians team rose to tenth place with 39 points (10 wins, nine draws, and 11 losses – 32 goals scored and 35 conceded).

During the 90 minutes, despite not scoring – but having an effective participation in the play that led to the winning goal after a corner kick and a rebound inside the area – forward Memphis Depay was, alongside defender Zé Marcos and midfielder William Oliveira, both from Vitória, the player with the most balls recovered in the match (7). Right behind Memphis and the two Vitória athletes are Aitor Cantalapiedra, with six balls recovered, Rodrigo Garro (Corinthians) and Matheus Bidu (Corinthians) – five each, as well as Raniele (Corinthians), Ramón, and Erick, both from Vitória, with four ball recoveries.

Out of Memphis Depay's eight goals in the 2025 season (second top scorer in the squad), four were in the Brazilian Championship. Additionally, he has 10 assists this year (team leader in this regard). Since his arrival at Parque São Jorge in September 2024, after not renewing with Atlético de Madrid, Spain, he has played 56 matches wearing the Corinthians jersey (44 as a starter).

The Dutchman was crucial in the team's surge in the 2024 Brasileirão, moving out of the relegation zone and securing a spot in the 2025 Pré-Conmebol Libertadores by finishing in seventh place with 56 points. In 2025, he was decisive in winning the Campeonato Paulista, especially in the derbies against Santos and Palmeiras.

In general numbers for Corinthians: 31 wins, 12 draws, and 13 losses – 62.5% success rate, with 15 goals and 14 assists. However, the number 10 has not participated in goals for the Alvinegro since July 30, when he scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras in Itaquera, during the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16.
