Corinthians out on penalties to Ferroviária, exit Paulista Sub-20

Corinthians said goodbye to the Paulista Women’s Under-20 Championship. On the afternoon of this Wednesday (5th), the Brabinhas faced Ferroviária at Estádio Taquarão, in Taquaritinga, for the second leg of the state semifinal. After a 1-1 draw in regular time, they were eliminated after losing the penalty shootout 4-2, thus ending the calendar for the category in 2025.

For the decisive match, coach Bia Vaz lined up a team consisting of Rillary; Rafa Rocha, Brunna, Gabi Pires, and Ester; Carol Melo, Gaby Tomé, Manu Olivan, and Rafa Rodrigues; Helô Camargo and Rayane. On the bench, the following were available: Sophia Trindade, Kaillany, Emelym, Lara Mel, Dafhiny, Raíssa, Gabi Jordi, Mel, and Júlia Romero.

The match started evenly and Corinthians bet on an offensive lineup, especially with the quartet of midfielders. The first chance came from a corner taken by Rayane to Brunna, who finished well, but Isa Faichel made a two-step save.

Shortly after, Ferroviária almost opened the scoring on a counterattack, with Gabi Pires clearing for a corner. After the opponent’s pressure, Manu Olivan crossed, Rayane challenged for the ball, and Helô Camargo took advantage of the rebound to score: 1-0! Timão held the lead until halftime, despite new chances for Ferroviária from set pieces.

Corinthians returned from the break sluggish and saw Ferroviária dominate possession. Bia Vaz made changes, bringing on Lara Mel and Júlia Romero, but the result did not change immediately. At the 16th minute, Robertinha nearly equalized, shooting just wide of the post.

The alvinegra team tried counterattacks but lacked finishing, as in Rayane’s shot blocked by Kédma. After more substitutions, Fogaça headed the ball, it deflected off Gabi Jordi, and the match was tied. In the final minutes, Ferroviária pressed, but Rillary held firm and Manu Olivan saved Timão in the last attempt, forcing the spot in the final to be decided by penalties.

Lívia opened the shootout scoring for Ferroviária, while Brunna Meer missed Corinthians’ first. Raíssa also missed, giving the rivals an advantage. Sarah Santos and Fernanda extended the lead, Gaby Tomé and Kaillany kept Corinthians’ hopes alive, but Nogueira converted the last penalty and sealed Timão’s elimination.
