Corinthians is in a deepening power struggle after a disputed vote to suspend Deliberative Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior, a decision likely to be settled in court. According to Globo.com, the row pits club president Osmar Stabile against Tuma Júnior.

Stabile invoked item six of article 112 to convene Monday’s session. Of 290 councillors, 137 attended, with 115 backing removal, 15 against and seven abstentions.

Stabile accuses Tuma Júnior of threat, harassment, political interference and serious misconduct. Tuma Júnior calls the meeting illegal and says he will only leave under a valid court order or a process that strictly follows the statute.

Stabile told councillors the rift followed a six March confrontation at a pizzeria, allegedly tied to pressure over a security hire and events that disrupted a planned impeachment vote on 20 January 2025. Tuma Júnior denies it and says he will go to the police.

Allies of Tuma Júnior say it aims to derail the 18 April statute reform that could grant Fiel Torcedor a presidential vote, and to enable an untraceable secret ballot on the 2025 accounts. By statute the club must judge last year’s numbers by the end of April, and Stabile could face impeachment if they are rejected.

Leonardo Pantaleão has questioned the vote’s legality and says no formal change applies until its validity is recognised. Tuma Júnior maintains he is Council president, Stabile says Pantaleão is acting president, while Pantaleão says Tuma Júnior remains in post.
