Corinthians president speaks out on Memphis Depay contract talks

Last Wednesday (26th), President Osmar Stabile attended the Brazilian Football Confederation event, Summit CBF Academy, where the financial fair play system that will come into effect in Brazil from January 2026 was presented. There, he gave an interview to the press and was questioned about the contractual situation of Memphis Depay.

The number 10 has a contract until July 2026, a period that coincides with the start of the 2026 World Cup: “We cannot talk about this at the moment, there is an active contract. I cannot discuss negotiations at this time. We will work within what the contract establishes. When it is close to expiration, then we will talk. I don't know what will happen until then. Football is very dynamic, I can't speak about the future,” he said.

Since his arrival at Corinthians in September 2024, Memphis Depay has played in 60 matches (47 as a starter), achieving 33 wins, 12 draws, and 15 losses – almost 62% success rate, scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists. The number 10 was decisive in the team's surge in the last edition of the Brasileirão, where the team moved out of the relegation zone and secured a spot in the Pre-Libertadores.

Additionally, especially in the classics against Santos and Palmeiras, he was crucial in winning the 2025 Paulista Championship, against the Alviverde team, in Itaquera. Currently, the Dutchman is recovering from a bone edema in his right knee and is not expected to be on the field for the next Sunday's (30th) match against Botafogo, for the 36th round of the Brasileirão, at Neo Química Arena.

Currently, Memphis Depay's contract with Corinthians involves, according to people from the club's daily routine, values beyond the reality of the institution's current financial situation. The Alvinegro also recently made an agreement with the athlete's staff for the installment payment of R$ 23 million – related to awards – until March 2026.
