The conflict between Osmar Stabile and Romeu Tuma Júnior reached a new chapter this Tuesday. In an exclusive interview with Gazeta Esportiva, the president of Corinthians promised to request the impeachment of the president of the Deliberative Council.

I will request [Romeu's impeachment]. I will request it. For someone to approach a president of Corinthians, with 35 million supporters, and say what he said? I have to do something, otherwise, I'm a coward. He tries to interfere in management in a way that I was not allowing to happen, but for someone to come up to your ear and speak loudly: ‘Either do it or I'll screw you over?’ I will file a representation with Ethics. Didn't he say to do it? So, I will do it,” stated Osmar Stabile.

The Gazeta Esportiva report also reached out to Romeu Tuma Júnior. He places the issue of the club's statutory reform above any personal discussion, says he has a clear conscience, and does not fear losing his position.

“What fact can be greater than a statutory reform after 20 years and more than 2 uninterrupted years of work on this, and in the situation the club is in?” questioned Tuma.

“If the cost of retaliation has to be the loss of any position, I am willing to pay. I have a clear conscience. I am not attached to a position, I just fulfill my promises. The mission I received from the beginning of my term was to lead a modernizing reform of the statute. I have a commitment to every person who attended the hearings and presented proposals. But above all, a commitment to the fans, who demand a modern and democratic Corinthians from us. No fact is greater than this truth,” he added.

Heated Exchange in the Council

Osmar Stabile and Romeu Tuma Júnior overshadowed the voting on the Corinthians statute reform with a heated exchange that stirred up Parque São Jorge last Monday.

The discussion occurred right at the beginning of the meeting in the club's social headquarters auditorium. Stabile made serious accusations against Romeu, who defended himself and claimed to have evidence that the president was lying. The altercation was the trigger for a major tumult among council members, including exchanges of insults and even shoving.

Understanding the Conflict

Stabile accuses Tuma of trying to interfere in the club's executive management. According to Osmar, the last straw was last Friday, during a conversation between them. The president claims to have been threatened by Romeu.

According to the director, Romeu allegedly approached him during dinner and said: “Either you do what I want, or I'll screw you over.”

The reason for the conflict is the alleged hiring of Aldair Borges to join the security team at Parque São Jorge. The professional was mentioned in a Civil Police inquiry as responsible for hiding the barriers and allowing unauthorized people access to the club on January 20, 2025. On that occasion, there was a major commotion after a Council meeting that would vote on the impeachment of then-president Augusto Melo.

To Gazeta Esportiva, Stabile again denied that the professional had been rehired. He says that Aldair was at Parque São Jorge to ask for a job, claiming to be in a difficult financial situation, but was not hired.

“There was a guy showing up there to ask to come back and was rejected, said he was going through a difficult situation, but he was not and would not be hired, because of his situation during the invasion. A photo leaked, unintentionally, and Tuma fell for the false story, he fell for the lie and came to confront me,” stated Osmar.

Romeu Tuma Júnior, in turn, assures that he has evidence that the executive board rehired not just one, but two professionals involved in the episode. He also denies any threat to Stabile.

“I am calm and waiting for any kind of representation that may be filed against me. In fact, I have already requested the president of the Ethics Committee, Leonardo Pantaleão, to investigate all the facts, retrieving security camera footage, and providing the Police Report I filed on the day of the incident. He hired not one, but two security personnel involved in the episode, and after the warning I gave on Friday, knowing that the internal repercussions would be disastrous, he fired them. I never threatened him, I only warned him, and in the appropriate forum, we will prove who was threatened in that episode,” said the CD president to the report.

Sudden Ending?

Stabile also explained why he decided to expose the situation to the Council and questioned the way Romeu ended the voting last Monday. After arguing with Osmar, Tuma decided to suspend the meeting for ten minutes but ended the session and left the auditorium before the time was up.

“The fact is more important than the moment. The meeting could have continued. No one hit anyone, discussions are common in any club's Council. The most important thing, he interrupted the meeting for ten minutes, and with six minutes, he gathered everything and left, exited through the back. He could have waited the ten minutes. I attended to the fans downstairs, went up, and went to work. He didn't wait the ten minutes,” pointed out the Corinthians president.

“The meeting didn't end because of that. He took advantage of that moment. So much so that the other council members stayed there. There was an atmosphere to continue. Discussion is natural. In the past, it was chair-throwing. Today, no one hits anyone. Discussion is common, it happens. If you don't have the structure to continue, you leave,” he added.

Romeu Tuma Júnior, however, claims there was no need to wait the ten minutes to end the meeting. He says there was no atmosphere to resume the session and reported threats from other council members.

“There is no need to wait the ten minutes. Approximately at seven minutes, I reopened the meeting, but threats and intimidations were already occurring towards me and several other council members. There was no atmosphere for the meeting to continue. In fact, I suspended the meeting because the president himself took over the microphone as if he were the president of the Council and started calling his employees to speak without any adherence to institutional rules. He completely disrespected the Council,” stated Tuma.

“I deeply regret what he did. In fact, if the fact was more important than the moment or vice versa, he should have represented me much earlier and used the meeting only to communicate the fact, to inform that he had taken the appropriate measures. I don't know, honestly, how Osmar can sleep in peace after slandering and defaming me as he did yesterday,” he concluded.

Next Steps

Amid the chaos that ensued at the Council meeting after the discussion between Romeu and Stabile, Tuma ended the session and informed that the vote will be taken directly to the General Assembly of members, on a date yet to be defined.

For this, the CD president relies on article 45, section II, letter A of the club's statute, which allows for the statutory reform to pass only through the General Assembly, provided that the need for it is recognized by the Council. See what the article says:

“The General Assembly will meet:

II – Extraordinarily, at any time, to:

A – approve the amendment of this Statute, under the terms of the Civil Code, when expressly convened for this purpose, recognized, preliminarily, by the CD, the need for the amendment.”

The issue has been dragging on since last year at Parque São Jorge. The new statute was supposed to be voted on in December 2025, but council members decided to postpone the process to better discuss some of the terms of the draft. Initially, Tuma's desire was to complete the process by the end of last year.

The new statute, presented in October last year, addresses relevant topics such as the right to vote for Fiel Torcedor and the transformation of Corinthians into SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol).

Ten public hearings were held to discuss the main items of the text. It is worth noting that the meetings had low attendance. Since 2024, the Statute Reform Commission has been working on the project, which was developed from internal discussions and conversations with organized external movements, such as Gaviões da Fiel.
