Corinthians’ Deliberative Council Justice Commission has concluded that former president Andrés Sanchez improperly used the club’s corporate card for personal expenses between 2018 and 2020.
According to Globo.com, the administrative report has been submitted to the Council for action and labels his conduct irregular and reckless, citing material, moral and reputational harm to the club.
It lists spending on hotels, restaurants, furniture, jewellery and clothing stores, clinics, hospitals and airlines, with no link to official club duties and no expense reports filed.
The document recommends recovering the improperly spent sums, tightening internal rules on corporate card use and implementing stricter controls. It adds that oversight bodies were not informed at the time about a card issued to the ex-president and received no justifications.
While the club statute has no specific regulation for directors’ corporate cards, the Commission said this does not justify using club funds for personal purposes.
All materials have been sent to Deliberative Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior to consider opening an ethics case, which could lead to administrative sanctions for breaches of the statute.
The Commission is still examining card spending under ex-presidents Duílio Monteiro Alves and Augusto Melo, with no conclusions yet.
Separately, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed two complaints over Sanchez’s card use. In one, a judge dismissed money laundering and tax charges and paused analysis of alleged embezzlement, but kept precautionary measures, including a ban on contacting Corinthians officials and witnesses.
In a new action, prosecutors refiled the laundering and tax allegations and asked that Sanchez be ordered to repay Corinthians R$ 101,000. His legal team has been approached for comment.
