Corinthians reach fourth straight Copa do Brasil semi-final in 2025

Corinthians' qualification for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil this Wednesday, the 10th, after defeating Athletico-PR at the Neo Química Arena by 2-0 in the second leg, closing the aggregate score at 3-0, also brought the club the consolidation of some important milestones for the People’s Team, both in the current season and in the history of their participation in the tournament.

Regarding the national tournament, this achievement is related to another trip by Timão to the semifinals, as this marks the fourth consecutive year that Corinthians has reached this stage in the national cup. In 2022, the campaign ended only in the final, when the team was ultimately defeated by Flamengo. In the following years, the team did not reach the final, being stopped by São Paulo in 2023 and again by Flamengo in 2024.

Another relevant point about the Corinthians achievement is that this will be the 11th Copa do Brasil semifinal contested by the team in its history. This is the fourth highest number among all participants in the competition, behind only Flamengo, which has reached 17 semifinals, Grêmio, which has reached this stage 16 times, and Cruzeiro, which reached its 12th semifinal this season – and will compete for a spot in the final against Timão, by the way.

Moreover, the strong campaign in the Copa do Brasil reinforced Corinthians' excellent performance in knockout matches in 2025. In total, the team played eight knockout ties, including both single-leg and two-legged formats, winning seven – the only elimination happened back in February, against Barcelona-EQU, in the 3rd round of the Copa Libertadores qualifying phase.

The seven qualifications, in addition to reaching the semifinals of the national tournament, also brought the Paulista title, after the Alvinegro overcame Mirassol, Santos, and Palmeiras. In total, Corinthians played 14 knockout matches in the season, achieving an impressive 11 wins, two draws, and only one defeat, scoring 19 goals and conceding just seven. The last of these goals conceded, by the way, happened over a month ago, on March 9th, scored by Santos in the Paulista semifinal.

The points performance in this segment of the season is extremely positive: 83.3%. For comparison, Corinthians played another 40 matches in the year, 22 in the Brasileirão (round-robin) and 18 in the Paulista and Sudamericana (group stages). The performance recorded, however, was much lower: 16 wins, 13 draws, and 11 losses, scoring 48 goals and conceding 46. A success rate of only 50.8%.
